The grace we receive through the sacraments helps us on the lifelong journey of faith. Two sacraments, Anointing (or Sacrament of the Sick) and Communion (or Eucharist) have special significance during illness or aging.
Anointing (The Sacrament of the Sick)
Anointing, is a source of grace and strength for healing or adapting to changes of aging. The anointing is appropriate before major surgery, when experiencing other serious health events, and upon entering hospice care.
An Anointing Mass is held each year in the early fall. All who are dealing with illnesses or aging and those who are their caregivers are encouraged to attend.
Anointing before planned major surgery and other non-emergency situations can be scheduled by calling the Parish Center 651-645-9389.
Emergency Anointing is available when there is an immediate life or death situation. During regular office hours, call the Parish Center 651-645-9389. After hours, call the Pastoral Emergency Cell phone 651-300-6600. If the emergency occurs in the hospital setting, a Priest Chaplain may be able to provide the Sacrament of Anointing in the most timely manner. Ask hospital staff if there is a Priest Chaplain available.
Communion (Eucharist)
Homebound parishioners who are no longer able to be with us for weekend celebrations of the Eucharist in the church are encouraged to call the Parish Center to request Communion in their homes.
Care Centers often have Catholic Masses or Communion Services on-site, with Communion brought to the rooms of those who are not able to attend. Ask the Care Center staff for specific days and times.
