Anointing and Communion Requests

The grace and strength received through the sacraments help us on our lifelong journey of faith. A renewed sense of the importance of sacramental grace can emerge during times of illness or advancing age.

Anointing (The Sacrament of the Sick)

Years ago, Anointing was understood as a "death bed" sacrament. We now understand this to truly be a sacrament which gives strength for healing or the changes that accompany aging. Anointing is appropriate before major surgery, when experiencing other serious health events, and upon entering hospice care.

An Anointing Mass is held each year in October. All who are dealing with illnesses or aging and those who are their caregivers are encouraged to attend.  Fall 2010 Anointing Mass will be Monday, October 4, 10am.  A luncheon will follow the Mass.  Call the Parish Center during September to RSVP for the lunch.

Anointing before planned major surgery and other non-emergency situations can be scheduled by calling the Parish Center 651-645-9389.

Emergency Anointing is available when there is an immediate life or death situation. During regular office hours, call the Parish Center 651-645-9389. After hours, call the Pastoral Emergency Cell phone 651-332-1854. If the emergency occurs in the hospital setting, a Priest Chaplain may be able to provide the Sacrament of Anointing in the most timely manner. Ask hospital staff if there is a Priest Chaplain available.

Communion (Eucharist)

Through the Eucharist, we are fed and strengthened. Those who are no longer able to be with us for weekend celebration of the Eucharist in church are encouraged to call the Parish Center to request Communion in their homes.

Care Centers often have Catholic Masses on site once a week, with Communion brought to the rooms after Mass for those who are not able to come to the chapel for Mass. Ask Care Center staff for specific days and times.
